Redevelopment
Starting in July 2001, the Museum went through the most exciting changes
in its history thanks to an award of £163,000 for access improvements
from Brighton & Hove City Council and £336,500 from the Heritage
Lottery Fund for the redisplay of the museum's collections. An additional
£35,000 was provided by the Headley Trust and £8,000 by the
Friends of Hove Museum and Art Gallery.
The improvements to the Museum include the installation of a lift and ramping
of changes in floor level to provide full access to the first floor.
The new galleries displaying the Museum's permanent collections give visitors
the opportunity to learn more about the collections and make sure they are
displayed safely to ensure preservation for future visitors.

For those who want to learn more about the collections, a research room
has been created. This includes more detailed information about objects
and a library relating to the topics of the galleries.
As part of the redevelopment the Museum has also been working with artists
and community groups to create a number of new commissions for the Museum.
These include metal railings made by Jon Mills and pupils from Peter Gladwin
Primary School, gallery seating made by Beatriz Matud and Brunswick Older
Peoples Project and a lift interior panel made by Duncan Hoosen and Care
Co-ops.
